Lanesville's boys' basketball season came to an end Saturday night at Jack Butcher Arena in a spot many figured to be unlikely: playing for a Class 1A Loogootee Regional championship. Within Lanesville's camp, there was always the push and drive to make a post-season run.

Aiming for an extended state tournament run, the sixth-ranked Silver Creek Dragons raced to a 16-2 lead in Saturday night's Class 3A Charlestown sectional final and never looked back, besting Corydon Central 82-51.

The North Harrison Cougars finished the regular season on a high note in a rare Thursday night game, rallying from a first-quarter deficit to top visiting Mid-Southern Conference-opponent Salem, 64-52. It was the kind of win needed for the Cougars as they go into this week's Class 3A sectional play against county-rival Corydon Central at Charlestown.

Panthers fend off hot Rebels


Corydon Central may have entered last Tuesday's contest against county-foe South Central with 15 straight wins in the series, but the Panthers had to earn No. 16 against an upward trending Rebels' squad. Carrying an eight-game win streak to the match-up, Class 1A No. 14 South Central launched to an eight-point lead in the first quarter.

Eagles take care of Crothersville


In a contest that had the smoothness of a late '60s model pick-up truck trying to start on a cold, wintry morning, host Lanesville was able to get cranking just enough to knock off Crothersville, 61-50, and snare a piece of the Southern Athletic Conference championship pie. In the other key league matchup of the night, South Central defeated New Washington, 56-42, to split the SAC title with the Eagles.
