Michael R. Kinser


Michael Rene Kinser, 68, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, after a short illness.
He was born Sept. 11, 1954, in Corydon, Ind., the son of Mickey and Dottie Mae Shewmaker Kinser.
He was a professional drummer for the gospel group The Jake Hess Sound and had played backup for many artists, including Tanya Tucker and the Oak Ridge Boys. He then came back home and worked for Kitchen Kompact in Jeffersonville, Ind., building cabinets from 1978 until he retired in 2010. After retiring, he continued playing drums for his church. He loved to hunt, fish, ride four-wheelers and camp. When they camped, he loved playing music with his family, especially his mom. He loved to feed all animals and had deer come to his window to remind him they were hungry. Mike was an Indiana University fan and loved playing Yahtzee. The love of his life and his whole world was his daughter, Brooke Renee.
He was preceded in death by his mother; an infant son, Christopher Michael Kinser; nephews, Adam and Josh Kinser; and his sister, Debbie Kinser, the first person to make him a big brother.
He is survived by his father, Mickey Kinser of Corydon; his daughter, Brooke Renee Kinser Bonnell (Andy) of Muncie, Ind.; brothers, Terry Kinser (Karen) of Corydon, Markie Kinser (Lisa) of Milltown, Ind., and Jeffrey Kinser of Corydon; many cousins, among them his fellow musician Doc Stone; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon. Doc Stone and Pastor Mark Horton will officiate.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
