Historical Society sets 2023 quarterly events

The Historical Society of Harrison County’s next quarterly event will be an open house Tuesday at the William Henry Harrison Log Cabin located at 419 N. Capitol Ave. in downtown Corydon.
The cabin doors will be open to the public for this free event from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees are invited to view the Harrison History Exhibit, including newly donated items which have been added to the display of local memorabilia, as well as learn more about the Historical Society of Harrison County.
“We had an enthusiastic response when we were open daily throughout the month of October with hundreds of visitors,” said Karen Schwartz, president of the Historical Society. “We also participated in the Historic Holiday House Tour in early December.
“The Historical Society wants to provide continuing opportunities for the public to visit the Harrison History Exhibit and learn more about the Historical Society of Harrison County,” she said. “It would also be a great opportunity for attendees to bring in photos or information that they wanted to contribute for the upcoming ‘Journey Along Blue River’ video and booklet project.”
Schwartz said she is more than happy to arrange a personal tour of the log cabin at another time. To arrange a time, call her at 812-736-2373 or send an email to [email protected]
The Historical Society of Harrison County continues to strive to fulfill its mission statement: “To preserve, protect, promote and interpret the rich history of Harrison County, Indiana.”
The remainder of the 2023 quarterly events will return to the Society’s normal schedule and location, which will be the fourth Tuesday of every third month — April, July and October — at 7 p.m. at the Harrison County Community Foundation building located at 1523 Foundation Way in Corydon.
Scheduled topics are:
April 25 — “Lincoln Sites in Our Area” by Anne Cabaniss.
July 25 — “Crawford County History” by Lance Stroud.
October 24 — “Southern Harrison County History” by Bob Bartley.
In case of inclement weather conditions, if any Harrison County school is closed due to weather on the day of an Historical Society of Harrison County event, the event will be canceled.
