Lanesville’s 1st champs

During halftime of the South Central-Lanesville boys’ varsity basketball game Saturday night, the 1972 Lanesville cross-country team — which won the school’s first sectional in any sport — was honored for the 50th anniversary of the achievement. On hand were, from left, head coach Jerry Reinhardt, Mark Wernert, Butch Stilger, Larry Richmer, Chuck Himmelhaver, Rick Geswein and Kevin Albers. Teammate Bob Pfister passed away in May 2007. The Eagles won the Jasper Sectional with a score of 99, which was six points ahead of Boonville’s score of 105. The team also won the Harrison County championship and the Blue River Conference championship.
