In her first year at the collegiate level, North Harrison alumna Ali Saunders is already making an impact for the Valparaiso women’s basketball team.

Saunders, who graduated from North Harrison in December of 2021, went off in the Beacons’ contest against the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Nov. 21 as she scored a game-high 32 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. Despite losing to the Blazers in overtime 83-81, Saunders’ 32 points is a new program record for a freshman.

While spending the season coming off the bench, Saunders currently leads the Beacons with 14.3 points and shooting 53.8% from three-point range, along with posting an 88.5% mark from the free-throw line.

The Beacons will return to action tonight (Wednesday) when they host Western Michigan University at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
