Lady Panthers set school record in 400 freestyle relay

The Corydon Central swim team had a strong test Monday night when it hosted defending sectional runner-up Tell City and Providence for a dual meet.
In a night full of highlights for the program, one overshadowed the rest when the quartet of Megan King, Addison Applegate, Ella Johnson and Madison Stilwell capped off the meet by posting a new school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Facing Tell City in the event, the Lady Panthers’ quartet finished with a time of 4:10.85 to capture the school record.
Prior to the record-breaking swim, the Lady Panthers had other strong finishes, starting with Johnson, Stilwell, King and Georgia LaHue taking the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:06.65 while the boys’ quartet of Booker LaHue, Logan Edwards, Evan Casabella and Alex Marnell finished second in 2:10.14.
Stilwell had a strong night individually by capturing first in the 200-yard (2:07.47) and 500-yard freestyle (5:35.75). In the former event, Haley Drury and Haelley Shearer finished fifth and seventh with times of 2:53.20 and 3:04.68, respectively.
In the 200-yard individual medley, the Lady Panthers took three of the top four spots, led by King finishing first in 2:30.60 followed by a runner-up finish from Johnson (2:33.81) and fourth-place finish from Sydney Edwards (2:58.06). Booker LaHue finished second in the boys’ side of the event in 2:31.02.
King and Georgia LaHue bested the 100-yard butterfly when they finished first and second with times of 1:07.78 and 1:15.24, the latter being a personal best. Applegate followed by finishing second in the 100-yard (1:05.19) and third in the 50-yard (29.69) freestyles.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, the Lady Panthers had three finishers, led by Johnson finishing first in 1:22.38, Addison Alford fourth with a personal best time of 1:35.88 and Nathalie Laaz eighth in 1:54.16. In the 100-yard backstroke, Georgia LaHue took second place in 1:15.52 while Sydney Edwards finished third in 1:19.23 and Laurynn Smith with a personal best of 1:45.10.
On the boys’ side, Logan Edwards came out on top of a neck-and-neck race in the 100-yard freestyle in 58.34 and finished second in a tight in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.39. Casabella finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:33.37) and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:37.35). Booker LaHue captured the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.46, while Marnell took fifth in 1:30.35.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Applegate, Alford, Georgia LaHue and Sydney Edwards (girls) and Booker LaHue, Logan Edwards, Casabella and Marnell (boys) each finished second in their respective races with times of 2:04.95 and 1:51.14.
Both sides will be back in action Saturday morning when they return home to take part in the annual North Harrison Invitational, which is slated to kick off at 10 a.m.
