Opha Carol Hendrich, age 74, New Salisbury, Ind., passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at her home.

Carol was born Sept. 3, 1948, to Thomas J. Borden and Celia Irene Hoskins Rowland Borden. Carol married Charles R. Hendrich on June 11, 1965, and was married 49 years 315 days. To that union two daughters were born, Pamela Dawn Hendrich Giecek (Jason) and Christina Jo Hendrich.

Those preceding her in death were parents; husband; both daughters; sisters, Bertha M. Rowland Raible (John), Joyce A. Price and Wanda Borden; and brother, Curtis W. Borden.

Survivors include sister-in-law Lenna Borden, son-in-law Jason Giecek, three nieces, two nephews and six great-nieces and great-nephews.

Carol gave her life to Christ at the age of 12 and belonged to Mill Creek Baptist Church before moving her membership to Central Barren UM Church and then to Pfrimmer’s Chapel UM Church. She loved her Lord and Savior and enjoyed working in service to her Lord until her death.

Carol entered the work force in 1967 at the Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, Ind., until she retired in 2004 after 34 years of service. During her time at the Census Bureau, she worked as cartographer and made maps that perform the census. She was published for her work in such maps, starting with pen and ink maps until computer-generated maps.

Carol had a motto she tried to uphold every day and that was to enjoy each day of her life and serve the Lord so that no one could look back on her life and say, “Poor Carol; she didn’t get to do anything.”

Carol loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings. Carol loved traveling and had visited all but six of the contiguous states. Her favorite place was Emerald Isle, N.C., on the beach.

Carol also enjoyed crafts, crocheting, making pot holders, counted cross stitch, embroidery and so forth.

In her later years, she found much enjoyment of giving to others.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at Swarens Funeral Home, 1405 Highway 64 NW, Ramsey, Ind., with burial in Central Barren Cemetery.
