The 2022 boys’ tennis season played out similarly to that of years’ past as Borden once again proved itself as the best in the Southern Athletic Conference.
With a perfect 5-0 record in conference play, the Braves captured the SAC title for the fifth consecutive season and the sixth time in the last seven years. It was also a near clean sweep for the Braves in terms of conference awards as SAC Most Outstanding Player A.J. Agnew led the Braves to all-conference honors at four of the five courts. By sweeping the SAC title, as well as winning the program’s second sectional title in four years, Braves’ first-year skipper Sam Beckort was named SAC Coach of the Year. It is the third straight season and fifth in the last seven years that a Borden coach has won the award.
The lone all-conference selection that avoided the Braves’ grasp went to Lanesville senior Jack Crosby, who posted a perfect 4-0 record at No. 3 singles as he helped lead the Eagles to a second-place finish in the SAC standings for the fifth time in the past eight seasons.
The Eagles’ Landon Campbell and Austin Graves were also recognized by the SAC for posting a top record at No. 2 doubles, which is categorized by winning at least three out of the four individual conference matches. South Central’s Ty Jones, Craig Simpson and Peyton Tyree were also recognized after posting 3-1 individual records.
