Zabel receives Oppel award
Tammy Zabel is this year’s recipient of the Dr. Ken Oppel Spirit Award.
Zabel first started teaching in the North Harrison Community School Corp. and has been the principal since 2020 at Morgan Elementary, where she attended school. She has two children, Jackson and Mackenzie, and a granddaughter, Dani.
Chris Allen, who makes the annual award presentation, said Zabel, a cancer survivor whose husband died recently, is involved with the worship team at Northside Christian Church.
“She is a beacon of hope and support to all on her staff,” he said. “She has received many compliments from those on her staff on how she is just so overwhelmingly supportive and has just a wonderful attitude toward life through her joy of helping others, especially her students.”
Zabel’s hobbies include playing the piano, singing, accessorizing her wardrobe, making memories with family and friends, and spoiling her granddaughter and Paisley, her Yorkie.
The Dr. Ken Oppel Spirit Award is sponsored by the Lions Clubs of New Salisbury, Palmyra and Ramsey.
