Library announces October programming for adults
Check out the variety of programs the Harrison County Public Library is offering in October to meet the educational and entertain needs of adults. Programs are free unless othewise noted.
All branches of the Harrison County Public Library will be closed Monday, Oct. 10, for a staff education day.
Owl Painting — Saturday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Elizabeth branch; Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Corydon; Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Palmyra branch; artist Nikki will guide participants step by step. Everything needed will be available. Space is limited. Cost is $5 per person, due at registration.
Memories & Memoirs Book Club — Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Cory-
don. This book club is for lovers of historical and biographical books. The October book will be “A Private History of Awe.”
English as a Second Language/Ingles como segundo idioma — This program, facilitated by experienced volunteer teacher Elizabeth Redding, is intended for adult learners wanting to improve their English language skills in order to help them work and fully participate in the life of their communities. Classes will continue every other Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. starting Oct. 6 and every other Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon starting Oct. 11 at the main branch in Corydon.

Este programa de ESL está destinado a estudiantes adultos que desean mejorar sus habilidades en el idioma inglés para ayudarlos a trabajar y participar plenamente en la vida de sus comunidades. El programa es gratuito y está facilitado por la experimentada maestra voluntaria Elizabeth Redding. The Write Stuff — Thursday, Oct. 6, from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at Corydon. This club is for those who love to write; bring your thoughts, ideas and imagination.
Manga & Anime Club — Saturday, Oct. 8, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Corydon. This club is for those who love reading manga and watching anime. The manga for October will be “The Ghost in the Shell.”
Clever Crafts — Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Corydon. All materials will be provided, including instructions and help if needed. For October, participants will create a pumpkin door decor. Registration is required.
Understanding Your Medicare Choices — Thursday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Corydon. Join Neill Arnhart, Insurance Agent with Bankers Life, to discuss Medicare benefits and options.
Books & Bagels — Friday, Oct. 14, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Corydon. Choose any book from the HCPL collection to read and enjoy a bagel and be prepared to share an overview and thoughts on the book you selected.
Just Desserts — Monday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Corydon. Participants will bring a themed dessert to share, along with the recipe used to create it, and will sample each other’s desserts and collect copies of each recipe. Theme for October is pumpkin. Registration is required.
Mystery Book Club — Monday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Lanesville branch. The October book will be “How to Murder a Millionaire.”
Cooking with Class — Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lanesville branch. Experiment with new ingredients while preparing dishes and learning about ways to create delicious meals. The focus for October will be apples.
Cook Book Club — Thursday, Oct. 20, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Cory-
don. Participants will bring a themed dish (main or side) to share, along with the recipe used to create it, and will sample each other’s dishes and collect copies of each recipe. The theme for October will be chili. Registration is required.
Junk Journaling — Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lanesville branch. Create a junk journal from recycled and found materials, designing pages to be used for writing, drawing, recording memories or whatever you would like.
Anything Goes Craft Day — Saturday, Oct. 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lanesville branch. Bring a craft project to work on and socialize with others.
Paper Quilling — Monday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lanesville branch. Learn the art of paper quilling (rolling, shaping and gluing strips of paper to create decorative designs that can be used to decorate greeting cards, make wall art, jewelry and more). Registration is required.
Stitches in Time/Sit & Stitch — Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Corydon, Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Palmyra branch and Thursdays from 2 to 4 at Lanesville branch. Bring a current project or start something new, work at your own pace and enjoy the company of others.
