George (Mike) Deatrick, 76, Laconia, Ind., passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at Baptist Health Floyd.

He was born Aug. 10, 1945, in Laconia, the son of Beveridge and Madeline Riley Deatrick.

He was elected Harrison County sheriff from 2003 to 2010, retiring in 2010. Mike served on the Harrison County Council, was a Farm Bureau Co-op board member and was the swine superintendent for the Harrison County Fair 4-H Hog Barn for 27 years. He spent many years as a tobacco, grain and hog farmer and loved his horses dearly, especially “Tank,” who precedes him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, Robert Michael Deatrick; brothers, Edward, James and Thomas Deatrick; and sister, Mildred Cavins.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Reba (Joyce) Allen Deatrick of Laconia; sons, David Deatrick (Angie) of Depauw, Ind., and Darrin Deatrick of Laconia; daughter, Suzanne Liebert (Kevin) of Elizabeth, Ind.; grandchildren, Mason and Madi Fischer, Nathan, Justin, Jaxon and Jason Deatrick and Gen and Lexi Liebert; great-grandson, precious little Houston Michael Fischer; and brother, Paul Deatrick (Sharon).

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, Ind. Deacon Tim Elder will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, from 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mason Fischer, Madi Fischer, Nathan Deatrick, Justin Deatrick, Gen Liebert, Ryan Brown, Jaxon Deatrick and Jason Deatrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Saylor, James Wolfe, Elvin Barks, Carlton Crosier, Roger Creal, David Steen, Bobby Zimmerman, Bill Miller, John Magner, Howard Dale Faith, John Hess, Jeff Hess, Chip White, Tom Withers, Randy Fessel and Kenny Deatrick.

The family encourages masks to be worn and requests that no food be sent.

The family suggests memorial contributions of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the American Kidney Fund.
