12 graduate summa cum laude at NH
Of the 190 seniors at North Harrison High School during the 2021-22 school year, a dozen had high enough grade-point averages to graduate summa cum laude.
Graduation took place the afternoon of Sunday, May 22, in the school gymnasium.
“The class of 2022 has been extremely successful both academically and athletically, but the thing I will remember the most about this class is the way they came together as a group to support each other after the tragic loss of a classmate during their last semester,” said Matt Kellems, principal.
Of the summa cum laude students, Kellems said they are “a wonderful combination of smart, hard-working, young men and women, and I am proud to honor them as the top students from North Harrison High School.”
Those graduates are:
Nick Andry of Ramsey, son of Janna Andry and Matt Andry. He was a member of National Honor Society, the Academic Team, Math Team, Science Olympiad, STEM Club, Renaissance Club, Business Professionals of America and Boy Scouts.
His honors and awards include earning Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 4071 in Ramsey, receiving the National Merit Letter of Commendation, No. 1 senior for 2021-22 in the Greater Louisville Math League District 4 and placing second in Python Programming at the 2022 Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference.
Nick plans to major in computer science at Purdue University.
Isabelle Catherine Banet is the daughter of Sally Banet of Palmyra. She was a member of Business Professionals of America Region 12 president, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (freshman officer), LEO Club (vice president), Student Council (junior class president), Students Against Destructive Decisions (freshman officer), Renaissance, National Honor Society, Unified track, Youth Leadership Harriosn County, Student Athletic Council, cheerleading, softball, volleyball and prom committee.
Her honors and awards include perfect attendance and the Lilly Endowment Scholarship.
Isabelle plans to attend Butler University to major in secondary education.
Bryce Robert Delaney is the son of Brian and Kristi Delaney of Ramsey. He was a member of National Honor Society, Renaissance Club, Business Professionals of America, STEM Club, Science Olympiad team, Academic Team, Archery Team and Trap Club.
He received the Indiana University Southeast Paul Ogle Scholarship, IUS Grenadier Gold Scholarship, IUS/Sullivan University Direct to PharmD award, Harrison REMC scholarship and was high school boys’ Top Shooter in archery his sophomore, junior and seniors years.
Bryce plans to major in pre-pharmacy at IUS then go to pharmacy school at Sullivan University.
Mollie Gasaway is the daughter of Kay and James Gasaway of New Salisbury. She was president of the LEO Club and a member of Business Professionals of America and National Honor Society.
She achieved magna cum laude and earned an academic honors diploma.
Mollie plans to major in biology with a focus in medicine at Indiana University.
Emma LiYing Griffiths is the daughter of Rex and Denise Griffiths of Depauw. She was a six-year member of choir; a four-year member of Student Council (president senior year), Renaissance Club and Academic Team; a three-year member of National Honor Society (officer senior year); a two-year member of the cheerleader team; and a one-year member of the Student Athletic Council and Drama Club. She also participated in the Youth Leadership Harrison County program.
She was the recipient of the 2022 National School Choral Award and the Ogle Scholarship, Rising Star of Indiana and President’s Volunteer Service Award and was selected to participate in the Richard Lugar Symposium of Tomorrow’s Leaders.
Emma plans to attend Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music to double major in music education (choral focus and vocal performance).
Lillian Michele Hill is the daughter of James and Amy Hill of New Salisbury. She was a 10-year member of 4-H; a five-year member of marching band; four-year member of the Math Club, Renaissance Club, LEO Club and Business Professionals of America; and a three-year member of the Winter Drumline and National Honor Society.
She was part of the marching band’s Top 10 in Indiana State School Music Association Scholastic class, a three-year state qualifier for Business Professionals of America and ISMAA Honors Band and earned several gold and silver ratings at ISMAA solo and ensemble contests.
Lillian plans to major in nursing at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
Lucas Andrew Wayne Jobe is the son of Michael and Melissa Jobe of Ramsey. He played soccer for four years and SIU travel soccer for two years and participated in Student Council one year.
He received the All Academic Player Award for two years.
Lucas plans to study abroad and has been accepted to the University College Dublin’s sport and exercise management program.
Lilly Kaylin Jewel Mills is the daughter of Jeffrey and Vashti Mills of Palmyra. She was in choir for six years and Madrigal choir for four years.
She was selected to participate in the Richard Lugar Symposium of Tomorrow’s Leaders and earned the Rising Star of Indiana award.
Lilly plans to major in biology at Indiana University Southeast then study veterinary medicine at Purdue University.
Alexandria Faith Shaffer is the daughter of Teresa and Micah Shaffer of Georgetown. She was a member of National Honor Society (president), Renaissance Club, Art Guild (president), Academic Team and the school’s swim team (Mid-Southern Conference champions three years in a row).
She received the Presidential Scholarship from Ball State University.
Alexandria plans to study architecture at Ball State.
Shelby Renae Smith is the daughter of Kris and Dava Smith of Milltown. She was on the softball and volleyball teams for four years; a four-year member of Renaissance and Student Council; a three-year member of National Honor Society; two-year member of LEO Club and FCA; one-year member of the prom committee; and participated in the Youth Leadership Harrison County program.
She graduated with academic honors with distinction, received the 2021-22 Top Academic Athlete Award, was named 2021 IHSVCA Academic All-State, 2021 Mid-Southern Conference Softball All-Conference and 2019 MSC softball champions.
Shelby plans to major in nursing at Indiana University Southeast.
Andrew Michael Swartz, of Depauw, is the son of Tim Swartz and Suzetta Swartz. He was a five-year member of the pep band; four-year member of Renaissance; three-year member of marching band, drumline and National Honor Society; and one-year member of the Academic Team.
His awards and honors include Top 10 in Indiana State School Music Association Scholastic contests, second place in Tri State Circuit; gold rating in ISSMA Solo & Ensemble contests and gold in the Indiana University Southeast Grenaider contest.
Andrew plans to major in computer science information systems at Indiana University Southeast and minor in business.
Nathan Daniel Weston is the son of Matthew and Paul Weston of New Salisbury. He participated in marching band, jazz band, winter percussion, pep band, Business Professionals of American, Academic Team, National Honor Society, Renaissance Club, Math Team, STEM Club, Drama Club, Student Council and Band Council.
He received the John Philip Sousa award and North Harrison Math Achievement and placed third as a state finalist for the Academic Team.
Nathan plans to attend Purdue University to pursue a degree in engineering.
