Jacklyn, a resident of Genesis House, tosses the winning duck toward the shore of Indian Creek at Hayswood Nature Reserve at the finish line of the May 14 Duck Duck Dash. The event, which featured the “release” of 3,730 plastic ducks, was a fundraiser for Genesis House, a transitional home for women in Corydon. Waylou S., a kindergarten student at Morgan Elementary School, and Max M., a sixth grader at New Middletown Elementary School, were assigned to the winning duck. Meghan Stockdale, executive director of Genesis House, said, with more than 380 students at eight Harrison County schools participating, two students were assigned to each duck. The fundraiser’s honorary top seller was Jenna E., a pre-K student at North Harrison Elementary School. A slow current the day of the event resulted in about an hour-long wait for the ducks to make their way from the iron bridge to the finish line.
