Emily Marie Powell Riekhof passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at her home in New Albany, Ind.

She was born Monday, May 10, 1982, to Sharon and William Powell in Louisville, Ky.

Her father preceded her in death in 1997.

Emily grew up in Corydon, Ind., and graduated in 2000 from Corydon Central High School, where she was a very active student and a Presidential Scholar recipient. Upon high school graduation, she attended IUS for three years then changed her major from psychology to nursing and received an associate degree in nursing from Ivy Tech in 2007. In her career, Emily cared deeply for her patients and was a dedicated caregiver.

Emily and Joshua Riekhof were married May 5, 2006. They were proud parents of two daughters, Katarina and Wren.

Emily had many interests, including tae kwon do (earning a brown belt in high school), had a passion for drawing and painting and she loved spending time with her longtime Phi Sigma Sigma sorority sisters. Emily also loved traveling. She enjoyed annual family trips to Orlando, Fla. The 2021 family road trip took them west; eight family members in a transit van, covering 14 states from Indiana to California. Emily was also very sensitive about animals; she often took in strays and always had a pet.

Surviving of the home are her husband, Josh, and daughters, Katarina and Wren; parents, Sharon and Reid Ledford; in-laws, David and Nancy Riekhof; one grandmother, Mildred Newton; four sisters, Sarah Powell, Jennifer Edelen (Rich), Lindsey Wright (Chris) and Bridget Waters (Andrew); two sisters-in-law, Angela Riekhof and Jennifer McBride (Daniel); and three brothers, Billy Powell, Scott Powell (Kelly) and Jeremy Ledford (Dawn). “Aunt Em” will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany, on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, from 2 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service to be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
