Kenneth Earl Blackman, 89, Elizabeth, Ind., passed away at his home in New Albany, Ind.

He was born Jan. 26, 1933, in Elizabeth, the son of Theodore Earl and Phyllis Bour Blackman.

He was a tobacco and produce farmer, a logger, founder of Handy Andy’s restaurant, a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church of Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald Eugene and Sherrill Ray Blackman, and infant brother, Lester Ray Blackman.

He is survived by his wife, Valarie Dooley Blackman of New Albany; daughters, Debbie Blackman Herrera (Ted) of Brownsburg, Ind., Rebecca Philpott of Sellersburg, Ind., Christina Wilson (Ron) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Deanna Levell (Darrell) of Memphis, Ind.; brother, Darrell (Butch) Blackman (Brenda) of Elizabeth; grandchildren, Victoria, Mary, Devan, Kyle, Erik, Audrey, Taylor, Layne and Liam; and great-grandchildren, Smith, Kaizen, Isla, Aaliyah and Michael.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, Ind. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Elizabeth.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon and again from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society or American Legion Post 2751 in Elizabeth.
