Corydon Central’s Ava Weber was named Player of the Week in the Week 12 IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week Honors.

At 18-2 after week 12, Weber, a junior wing, is a big part of that success, according to the IBCA. In an easy, 53-23 Mid-Southern Conference win against North Harrison on Jan. 18, Weber scored a team-high 19 points. She also grabbed five rebounds and picked up four steals, as the Panthers moved to 7-1 in the conference to finish second overall.

Then on Jan. 22, the Panthers were back in action against Floyd Central. While it took an extra frame to win this one, Corydon Central triumphed by a score of 68-65. Weber, a 5-10 wing, was a near-perfect 7-8 from the floor, but it was her 15-of-20 performance at the free-throw line that was key down the stretch.

Weber’s 29 points were a season high, and her 10 rebounds helped her to the fourth double-double of her season. Toss in her three assists and four steals, and she contributed in multiple ways.

This is the 14th season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program but the second season it is presented by Franciscan Health, a corporate sponsor of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Player of the Week winners are chosen each week from each of the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s three districts.

Girls’ winners will be chosen through the Monday following the Indiana High School Athletic Association girls’ state finals. Boys’ winners will be chosen through the Monday following the IHSAA boys’ state finals.

Week 12 ran Jan. 17 to 22.
