A Salem woman died last Wednesday morning when the vehicle she was driving collided head-on with a semi tractor trailer.

Preliminary evidence gathered by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept., including witness statements, indicate Amanda Gibson, 34, was driving west on S.R. 64 when the compact car she was driving crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic and hit a semi tractor trailer at about 9 a.m. east of S.R. 135.

Harrison County Coroner Jeremy McKim said Gibson, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene of blunt force trauma.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

S.R. 64 was re-opened to traffic about two hours after the crash.

Harrison County EMS, members of the Ramsey and Palmyra volunteer fire departments and Indiana State Police assisted at the scene.
