Filing for primary election begins


Voters will select candidates for many county offices, as well as those at state and federal levels, to represent the Republican and Democratic parties in the May primary with the winners facing off in the November General Election.
This year, 11 county positions will be on the ballot, along with township trustees and township advisory boards.
Filing begins today (Wednesday).
In Harrison County, local offices up for election (and the current officer holder) are assessor (Lorena Stepro), auditor (Chad Shireman), circuit court judge (John T. Evans), prosecutor (J. Otto Schalk), sheriff (Nick Smith) and treasurer (Debra Dones).
Also on the ballot will be Commissioner District 3 (Jim Heitkemper), County Council District 1 (Kyle Nix), County Council District 2 (Ross Schulz), County Council District 3 (Holli Castetter) and County Council District 4 (Brad Wiseman).
Candidates for the 12 township trustees will be on the ballot: Blue River (Michael Beyerle), Boone (Linda King), Franklin (David Hussung), Harrison (Mark Strange), Heth (Teresa Eschbacher), Jackson (Joe Martin), Morgan (Fred Uhl), Posey (Teresa Sutton), Spencer (Aaron Scott), Taylor (Tana Miller), Washington (Jeremy W. Wathen) and Webster (Isaac Brown).
Each of the three seats on the township advisory boards will also be on the ballot.
Local offices up for election (and the current officer holder) in Crawford County are assessor (Michael Carlisle Sr.), auditor (Christian Howell), circuit court clerk (Lisa Holzbog), circuit court judge (Sabrina R. Bell), prosecutor (Cheryl Hillenburg), recorder (Jessica Villegas Bowman) and sheriff (Jeff Howell).
Also on the ballot will be Commissioner District 1 (Daniel Crecelius), County Council District 1 (Lucas Stroud), County Council District 2 (Mark Stevens), County Council District 3 (Dale Roll) and County Council District 4 (Chad Riddle).
Candidates for the nine township trustees will be on the ballot: Boone (Maebell Parr), Jennings (Pat Ramsey), Johnson (Enos Schwartz), Liberty (Ralph Sherron), Ohio (Kyle Wiseman), Patoka (Mary McLain), Sterling (Russell Newkirk), Union (John Procter) and Whiskey Run (Terry Stroud).
Each of the three seats on the township advisory boards will also be on the ballot.
Crawford County Clerk Lisa Holzbog said that although the Crawford County Judicial Complex is closed on Wednesdays, the election office will be open.
Those who wish to file to run for office in Crawford County may visit the election office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
Persons wishing to run for office in Harrison County may file at the Court House in downtown Cory-
don during office hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Filing forms can be downloaded at harrisoncounty.in.gov.
The deadline to file in either county is Friday, Feb. 4, at noon.
Also, voters will also select Democratic and Republican state delegates. Democrats will choose precinct committeemen in the primary.
At the state level, voters will choose candidates for auditor (Tera Klutz), secretary of state (Holli Sullivan) and treasurer (Kelly Mitchell).
Ballots will include State Senate District 47 (Erin Houchin), State Representative District 70 (Karen Engleman), State Representative District 73 (J. Davisson), State Representative District 74 (Stephen Bartels), U.S. House of Representatives Eighth District (Larry Bucshon), U.S. House of Representatives Ninth District (Trey Hollingsworth) and U.S. Senate (Todd Young).
School board races will be on the General Election ballot. Filing for school trustee positions will begin July 27. Positions are non-partisan.
Persons who are not registered to vote or have moved since the last election have until the end of the business day on Monday, April 4, to apply to register or to transfer registration (deadline is midnight if submitting a registration application online).
