Corydon Central hosted county rival Lanesville, along with Henryville and Heritage Hills, for a four-team swim meet Dec. 20 at the YMCA of Harrison County in Cory-
don.
On the boys’ side, the competition was primarily between the Hornets and the Patriots as the Panthers fielded only two swimmers, Hunter Crain and Booker LaHue. Crain had a solid night in the pool as he finished atop both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle with times of 23.27 and 51.41, respectively.
LaHue had a decent night as well, finishing third in a pair of events. First came the 100-yard freestyle, which he finished with a time of 1:01, followed by completing the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.67. The efforts of the two swimmers notched them a combined 56 points, resulting with them finishing behind the Patriots (310) and Hornets (142).
The girls’ side of the pool saw competition from more schools as the Lady Panthers competed in more events than the duo of Crain and LaHue. Leading the way for the Lady Panthers was Megan King, who won the 200-yard individual relay with a time of 2:29.80, followed by a 1:05.98 finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
King also contributed to second-place finishes in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays. In the former event, King teamed up with Sidney Edwards, Addison Applegate and Nathalie Laaz for a time of 2:22.97. Haley Drury replaced Laaz in the latter event, helping lead the Lady Panthers to a second-place finish with a time of 4:42.42.
Edwards had a strong day individually in the pool as she finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:32.18) and 100-yard backstroke (1:18.95). Applegate had similar success as she finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (30.82) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:09.87).
Laaz and Drury rounded out the Lady Panthers’ results on the day as the former finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (39.29) and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:52.29). Drury followed with fifth-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:57.12) and 100-yard backstroke (1:35.23), helping the Lady Panthers finish with a total of 176, good for third behind the Lady Patriots (303) and Lady Hornets (215).
Lanesville had a slightly larger group to compete as compared to the North Harrison Invitational just days earlier, albeit with one additional swimmer. That extra swimmer was Madison Hubbard, who finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:55.50 followed by finishing fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:18.78.
Alongside Hubbard were the duo of Kassie and Maisey Zurschmeide, who once again had strong showings in the pool. Maisey Zurschmeide had a decent showing as she finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:24.55) and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:51.91). Kassie Zurschmeide followed with a strong performance in her own right as she finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:21.05) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (6:39.42).
The combined efforts of Hubbard and the Zurschmeides were enough to give the Lady Eagles 69 points, finishing last in the four-team meet.
