Habitat to start building 17th house
Habitat for Humanity of Harrison County is ready to start construction of its 17th house in the county since the organization was established locally in 2000.
The house will be built in Lanesville near the site of two previous Habitat houses along Thomas Avenue, east of the Lanesville school campus.
“It will provide housing for a family of five, who qualified under our guidelines over two years ago,” said Don Gossman of Habitat of Humanity of Harrison County. “The build has been delayed due to restrictions imposed by Habitat International for COVID policies.”
Volunteers older than 18, with some experience in building or a desire to assist in the project, are invited to join Habitat members on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the build site. New volunteers are asked to call 812-267-1007 or 812-738-1008.
“Sorry, volunteers under the age of 16 are not allowed on the site due to insurance coverage,” Gossman said. “Volunteers between 16 and 18 must have parental permission signed at the site.”
Masks are not required but recommended. Parking is available at the build site.
Future dates for volunteers will be posted as scheduled.
