If there was ever such a thing as perfect golfing weather, that was epitomized Saturday at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour.
With hardly any clouds in the sky and comfortable temperatures throughout the early afternoon, it made for the perfect setting for the annual Mid-Southern Conference Invitational. Riding three finishes in the top five, Corydon Central captured the MSC title with a team score of 373. Host Brownstown Central finished second with a 407, followed by Scottsburg (428), defending champion Silver Creek (434) and Charlestown (500).
Continuing her dominance on the course all season, freshman Emma Rowland led the way for the Lady Panthers by winning the individual MSC title with a round-low 79. Rowland’s path to victory was helped by her performance during the first nine holes, where she needed more than five strokes only once.
Chloe Cannon and Abby Russel followed Rowland’s dominant showing by finishing third and fourth with scores of 91 and 97, respectively. Ivy Smith rounded out the Lady Panthers’ quartet of All-MSC honorees with a final score of 106.
The fifth and final member of the Lady Panthers team, Gracelyn Anderson, had a decent showing as well, finishing with a 115. The score was good for 17th place, allowing Anderson to capture the final All-MSC Honorable Mention selection.
Only able to field two players this season, North Harrison had decent showings from sisters Isabell and Olivia Abner, who finished with scores of 128 and 130, respectively.
Aside from the four Lady Panthers, the host Lady Braves also had four All-MSC finishers, while Silver Creek and Scottsburg each had one.
Next stop for both squads is sectional on Saturday at Old Capital Golf Course in Corydon. Tee time is set for 8 a.m.
