Jewel Mae Cavins, 93, Floyds Knobs, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany,

Born Jan. 23, 1928, in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late John William and Rebecca J. Buckingham Riley.

She was formerly employed at the South Side Inn in New Albany, at Huber’s Winery near Starlight and at the old Indiana Army Ammunition Bag Plant near Charlestown and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church near Starlight.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lee Cavins; a son, Mark Cavins; a daughter, Frances Cavins; and a brother, Bob Riley.

Survivors include her a, John Cavins of Palmyra; six daughters, Donna Buchanan and Gloria Cavins, both of New Albany, Theresa Barnes of Starlight, Ellen Bunch of Pekin, Leisa Harris of Fairdale, Ky., and Cheryl Cavins of Georgetown; a brother, William W. Riley of New Middletown; a sister, Margaret M. Riley of Elizabeth; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 17, after 10 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

A funeral Mass will be Friday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Corydon.

Pallbearers will be Joe Barnes, Daniel Cavins, Chris Barnes, Ryan Cavins, Jaren Barnes and Zach Cavins.

The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
