Food truck houses Mama B’s Kitchen

A customer pulled up to Mama B’s Kitchen food truck location near New Salisbury on a Monday afternoon hoping to purchase a strawberry-lemonade shakeup. The business wasn’t open but, because Brenda Villareal was outside with her two kids at the time, she started making one for him right away.
That’s the kind of service that can be found at Mama B’s Kitchen located at 1030 Highway 64 NE just west of New Salisbury. The food truck is open and operating for service Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a couple of picnic tables under a canopy where food can be enjoyed nearby. And during those hours — and sometimes outside of them like the rare occurrence for the customer who drove by Monday — Villareal and her family are cooking up offerings.
Originally from Illinois, Villareal moved to Harrison County to be closer to family, who had also moved to the area. She said she has always worked in and around the food service industry after her mother had taught her to cook from a young age.
Opening up a food truck once she was settled seemed like the right next step to her, especially as she has her brother Billy Villareal, owner of Po Boy’s BBQ in Harrison County, to turn to for advice.
“Billy and I drove all over to find this truck and bring it back here,” Villareal said. “We completely built it from the ground up on the inside. It’s perfect.”
Mama B’s Kitchen, named after Brenda who encourages everyone to call her Mama B, serves something for every food lover as they make jumbo, hand-breaded tenderloin, charbroiled ribeye steak sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, bratwursts, hot dogs, french fries and homemade onion ring stacks from her mother’s recipe.
The food truck also serves desserts, like deep-fried banana splits and deep-fried strawberry cheesecakes. Villareal also makes shakeups in lemonade, strawberry and peach flavors.
“I love people more than anything,” Villareal said. “There is nothing I love more than just serving others and then coming out and chatting with them about their day and our community. Sharing food with others and having a meal together is the best form of love, and I love that it can be found here.”
Villareal posts daily specials on her Facebook page, Mama Bs Kitchen, where she also posts discount offers like 10% off for all veterans, seniors, active duty military, law enforcement or first responders.
She also takes call-ahead orders to be available for pickup. She can be reached at 812-596-2811 or at [email protected].
