Viola Elizabeth Funk Behr, 78, Elizabeth, Ind., went home to Jesus Wednesday, July 21, 2021.

The oldest of five children, she was born Oct. 9, 1942, in Corydon, Ind., to Kenneth and Evelyn Buse Funk.

She was a retired math teacher at South Central Middle School and a member of Smith Campground United Methodist Church in Laconia, Ind.

Viola cherished family and friendships and lived a full life centered in those relationships, honoring the Lord with her caring, generous heart. She loved to stay busy. She quilted, pioneered with her family in Indiana parks, traveled throughout the U.S. with her husband and daughter, as well as abroad with family. She was somewhat of a family historian and competitively attended Silver Sneakers classes. She carried on the family tradition of Easter egg hunts at the Funk farm, which all the children (big and small) looked forward to each year. She was notorious for taking your picture when inevitably you had just taken a bite, and we all learned to be leery when she walked into a room with her camera. Viola will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle A. Behr; and her sister, Donna Funk.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Kuchenbrod (Thomas) of Richland, Ind.; her granddaughter, Aleksandra Kuchenbrod (Michael Spivey); and siblings, Paul Funk (Debbie), Shirley Johnson (Jim) and Len Funk (Betty Jo).

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery in Laconia.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday also at the funeral home in Corydon.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to either Smith Campground United Methodist Church or to Rehoboth Cemetery.
