Optimists seek couples for vow renewal, wedding
The Georgetown Optimist Club will host a wedding and a vow renewal ceremony Sunday, Sept. 5. This event is provided at no charge to the participating couples.
Anyone who wants a free venue to be married or to renew their wedding vows is invited to apply. The event includes a reception with cake and finger foods, for up to 50 people.
The event is part of the Optimist Club’s event highlighting the significance of the Duncan Tunnel Train Whistle Stop and promoting the Optimist Club as a site for outdoor weddings.
Anyone interested in participating in a free marriage/vow renewal must submit a short essay (up to 250 words) explaining why they’d like to participate.
Entries must be postmarked by Saturday, July 31. Mail to entries to Labor Day Event, Georgetown Optimist Club, 8260 S.R. 64, Georgetown, IN 47122.
John Beams, with Destination Georgetown, said the hope is to develop a site in relation to the Duncan Tunnel, the longest train tunnel in the state. It was built in the 1800s, and at one time there was a depot.
“It’s an important part of Georgetown’s history,” Beams said. “It’s something we want to continue to develop.”
