Harrison County Community Services Inc. is expanding its services to include a weekly community meal.

The meals will take place Monday evenings from 5 to 6:30 at Corydon Presbyterian Church, located at 568 Highway 62 W.

While the anticipated start date will not happen until later this summer, plans are to provide hot, nutritious meals, although sandwiches or other cold food items may also find their way onto the menu.

“HCCS recognizes there is a need to provide food for the hungry and homeless in our community,” said Richard Cooper, executive director of Harrison County Community Services Inc. “For some Harrison County residents, this community meal may be the only hot meal they eat each week.”

Cooper said HCCS is grateful to be working with Corydon Presbyterian Church and its members to host the weekly meal in the church’s Community Life Center.

Teams of volunteers from churches and organizations from throughout the county will help to prepare and serve the meals each week. Anyone would like to help and can donate a few hours a month is asked to call HCCS volunteer coordinator Linda Brown, at 812-738-8143.

An announcement regarding the date of the first meal will be made as soon as final details are completed.
