Charles B. Harris
Charles B. (Charley) (Cookie) Harris, 78, Corydon, Ind., passed away Friday, June 18, 2021, at his home in Corydon.
He was born July 20, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Thomas G. and Gene Margaret Bowman Harris.
He retired in 1989 as a statistical clerk from the U.S. Census Bureau. After retirement, he was a substitute teacher for many schools in the county, was owner and operator of Charlie’s Tax Service and was a member of Lanesville United Methodist Church. He was fun loving and known as a jokester and was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 25 in Lanesville, Ind., and was youth leader at church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Sue Cline Harris of Corydon; sons, Scott D. Harris (Kristie) of Depauw, Ind., and Richard K. Harris (Voni) of Kodiak, Alaska; daughter, Amy G. Bowman (Matt) of Corydon; brother, Samuel Thomas Harris of Depauw; sisters, Charlene Branham of Louisville, Ky., and Grace Belcher of Corydon; grandchildren, Lyndsey Wilcher (Jeremy) of Memphis, Tenn., John Faith of New Albany, Ind., Amy Waldo of Corydon and Leah Wilson-Diaz (Ephraim) of Kodiak, Alaska; 6-1/2 great-grandchildren; and longtime caregiver and friend who was like a family member, Genia Stinson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon. Pastor Edith Bleecker will officiate. Burial will be in Lanesville Protestant Cemetery in Lanesville.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, and again from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to either the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at nationalmssociety.org or to Lanesville United Methodist Church.
