William F. Kannapel


William F. (Bill) Kannapel, 83, Elizabeth, Ind., passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Ind.
He was born Aug. 8, 1937, in New Middletown, Ind., the son of Frank and Josephine Bierly Kannapel.
He graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1955. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and spent time in Germany. Upon returning home, he started his career at the old Eureka Telephone Co. in Corydon, Ind., and he saw the company change hands several different times, and Bill retired from Contel in 1990. He started his retirement business and opened Elizabeth Farm Supply in 1981, which he still ran at the time of his death. While working both of these jobs, he spent his pastime farming. He was a devout member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New Middletown.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, James Robertson.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Snyder Kannapel of Elizabeth; four children, Julie Ehnle (Shawn), Beth Crosier, Anita Schoen and Mike Kannapel (Courtney); siblings, Charles Kannapel (Cherry), Mary Rose Stevens (Floyd) and Martine and Joyce Kannapel, all of Elizabeth, and JoAnn Robertson of Ramsey, Ind.; grandchildren, Brittany Rowley (Josh), Gary Wilson, Abby and Noah Ehnle, Jordan (Payton) and Logan Crosier, Austin, Chase and Evan Schoen and James and Colt Kannapel; and one great-granddaughter, Sloane Crosier.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New Middletown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Most Precious Blood Cemetery at 312 E. High St., Corydon, IN 47112 or to St. Joseph Catholic School at 512 N. Mulberry St., Corydon, IN 47112.
