Selfless service

Selfless service Selfless service

Col. Eric Crispino, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, speaks at Saturday morning’s service at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon hosted by Old Capitol VFW Post 2950 and Veterans of Harrison County Inc. Behind him is Christina Bolen, Bob Raisor and, partially hidden, Wayne Wilkinson. Crispino, who graduated from West Point on May 30, 1998, talked about one of the Army’s seven values, “selfless service … a powerful concept” that is not just “a set of words but a way of life.” He said the commitment to serve each other and to the notion of “nation over self is what makes me most proud to wear this uniform and to be a soldier in our Army.” The service also included the reading of the names of those from Harrison County who died in wars. Photo by Jo Ann Spieth-Saylor
