The Lanesville tennis team went undefeated to win the Southern Athletic Conference championship title.

Senior Morgan Bell and sophomore Grace Campbell went undefeated in No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, in conference, while sophomore Linzie Wernert and junior Emma Campbell kept a clean slate at No. 1 doubles.

No. 2 doubles also went undefeated in SAC play.

The team also won the Crawford County Invitational.

In sectional play, the team’s season came to an end May 19 against New Albany.

“We had a very successful season,” said coach Michael Sizemore. “I’m so proud of the team. We went through a lot of difficulties through the short season, but we ended with great successes.

The team is losing one senior.

“We will miss our lone standing senior, Morgan Bell,” Sizemore said. “Morgan worked very hard this season and throughout her tennis career at Lanesville. Her presence on the court was a delight, and her leadership was incredible. She finished out her career at Lanesville with a sectional victory against New Albany. I’m so proud of Morgan and her accomplishments. She will be missed.”

Returning players are junior Emma Campbell and sophomores Wernert, Grace Campbell, Rachel Leffler, McKenna Smith and Kailin Scarberry.

“They are going to make us a very tough team to beat next year,” Sizemore said. “I’m extremely excited for the future of Lanesville tennis.”

The team finished the season with a 12-4 record.
