Archers advance to NASP championships
Two weeks ago, North Harrison Community School Corp. learned its archery teams’ members would take their skills to the next level in a few weeks.
The teams at each school — Morgan Elementary and North Harrison Elementary, Middle and High School — all qualified for the NASP Championship Tournament, both bullseye and 3-D shooting, which will take place in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on June 11.
The school corporation will send 120 archers to the tournament to compete.
“It’s amazing that we have made it this far in only three years of having the archery program,” Ashley First, head coach of the teams, said. “The archers have worked so hard to earn their spot at the championship tournament. I can’t wait to see how they do in Myrtle Beach.”
First also noted the team is accepting donations to help any family in need with travel expenses. Anyone interested in donating can make checks to North Harrison Archery and can contact the school to learn when and where to drop them off.
The North Harrison community was even able to get in on some of the celebrations for the teams as it had a celebration for the members on the way to their awards ceremony on May 12.
“We had a fire truck, county cops and state troopers escort the kids in a parade to their ceremony,” First said. “It was so awesome to see the community support our archers.”
