Jerry D. Purcell
Jerry David Purcell, 75, of Greenville, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1946, at his homeplace at 4060 Highway 64 overlooking Indian Creek in Harrison County to George Maurice and Carrie Grethel Wilkerson Purcell.
He was a 1964 graduate of North Central High School in Ramsey, Ind. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was formerly employed over the years at General Electric, International Harvester, Cherry-Burrell, Vulcan Hart and as a stagehand in Louisville. He also worked at the former Miller Kitchen in New Salisbury, Ind., and Purcell Electric in Corydon, Ind.
Dave enjoyed music, photography, reading, fishing and kayaking on Indian Creek and Blue River and watching his favorite basketball team, the Indiana Hoosiers. He was a member of the Corydon Moose Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Carrie Ruth Purcell.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, Bob Purcell (Tina) of Depauw, Ind.; grandson, Brandon Purcell (Ai) of Japan; great-grandsons, William, Winston and Henry Purcell; his brothers, George Michael Purcell (Mayetta) of New Salisbury and John Curtis Purcell (June) of Corydon; and his sister, Virginia Ellen Morris (Robert) of New Salisbury, along with many nieces and nephews and long-time friends.
It was Dave’s wish to be cremated. Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey is handling the arrangements. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Dave’s name to the WHAS Crusade for Children, via Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department.
