Number of new COVID cases at 10 in past week
The number of positive cases of COVID-19 appear to be slowing in Harrison County, with just 10 new cases reported within the past week. That brings the total to 4,368 since March of 2020.
A total of 76 county residents have died from the virus since the pandemic started. That’s an additional death since last week. The Harrison County Health Dept. said the newest death was a 98-year-old female who had underlying health conditions.
Another 141 persons were tested for the virus in the past week, bringing that number to 19,780.
A total of 14,079 persons who reside in Harrison County are considered to be fully vaccinated. That’s an increase of 599 since the prior week.
The number of Hoosiers who are fully vaccinated rose by 159,649 in the last week, bringing the total to 2,326,908.
Another 72 residents have died from the virus; the total is 13,090. An additional 417 Hoosiers, up one from last week, are believed to have died from COVID but no test was performed to confirm.
The number of tests performed increased by 158,236 in the past week, bringing the number to 10,208,588. Of those, 736,480 were positive, an increase of 5,511 from the previous week.
Forty-one counties, including Harrison, are designated blue zones, the lowest of the four color codes to indicate the positivity rate for the virus. Forty-five counties are at the next level, yellow, while the state’s remaining six counties are designated orange. No counties are classified as red.
Individuals ages 12 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals 12 through 17 years of age must register at a Pfizer vaccine site.
To register for a vaccine, go online to https://ourshot.in.gov, call 211 or call the Harrison County Health Dept. at 812-738-3237 then select option 1 or 2.
Harrison County residents now receive first and second doses at the local health department after the vaccination clinic at First Capital Christian Church in Corydon was closed last week.
The Moderna vaccine is available on Mondays and Thursdays, the Pfizer vaccine on Tuesdays and the Janssen and Janssen vaccine on Wednesdays.
