Duck race Duck race

Indiana conservation officer Jim Schreck paddles a kayak on Big Indian Creek among 4,100-plus rubber ducks Saturday as part of a fundraiser for the Harrison County Substance Abuse Coalition and Genesis House in Corydon. For $1, elementary schoolchildren could “purchase” a duck. The ducks were dropped from one of two walking bridges on Indian Creek Trail and traveled approximately 1/2 mile of the creek in 20 minutes, 2 seconds. The winning duck was from Mrs. Long’s class at South Central Elementary School; the class will receive a pizza party. Harrison County Prosecutor J. Otto Schalk expressed appreciation to participants as well as to the conservation officers “who saved the day and helped collect thousands of rubber ducks after my aquatic engineering failed us at the finish line. Harrison County is lucky to have the phenomenal DNR officers that routinely go above and beyond their normal duties.” Several businesses and individuals were sponsors of the first-time fundraiser.
