• River Valley Humane Society has received a grant from the Harrison County Community Foundation to help people spay and neuter their pets. Please take advantage of this offer. Call 812-969-2615.

• We visited Hayswood (Nature Reserve) today, myself and my granddaughter, for a special lunch together. I was so disappointed whenever I got here to see that as beautiful as this park is they’re not taking very good care of the shelter houses. The pillars that holds it up is all rotted away at the bottom. The picnic tables are all rotty looking; they haven’t been painted. And the fire things are just all rusty looking. Come on. We have such a beautiful park. If we have to charge a little to get in here so they can keep up the maintenance, so be it, but please don’t let the park deteriorate. It’s such a pretty place …

• Imagine highways using traffic laws written in 1791. Imagine radio, television and internet run by 1791 regulations. Imagine limiting yourself to medical care available in 1791. The Second Amendment was written in 1791. Thoughts and prayers are not enough.

• I was calling about the controversy of the road project that’s on the front page (April 14) of The Corydon Democrat. My question is, why did the county accept the roads before it was brung up to standard from the state? I mean, it looks to me like that would be like giving the county a piece of equipment that had a blowed up motor in it or something like that. …

• I was just reading in the Live Wire about the person that said on Highway 62 headed towards Lanesville someone has their Christmas lights on every night and every morning and they appreciated that as they were going to work and would see the lights. I do approximately the same thing. I get up early, which I normally do not do, and turn my Christmas lights on so the kids on the school bus will see it. And I know when my kids were in school, they enjoyed seeing the Christmas lights on the way to school.

• I was very surprised to read in the paper that the Harrison County recycling will not be open on weekends. I was there last Saturday. It said it would be open but it wasn’t, and there was 10 of us there during the 10 minutes that I was there and there was more coming in so I’m sure it’s very used on Saturdays, so it’s disappointing to learn that it’s going to be closed.

• I ain’t never seen somebody in this here town so nice as Pastor Trevor. He ain’t done wrong by nobody his whole life, and now he’s turning 40 and this whole community can be looking to his godly example for humility, servitude, humor and this guy will do anything for anyone like move a piano or watch your kids or dig holes in your yard if you need. This guy is a loving example, living example, of Jesus right here in Corydon. He loves having debates so much that make your heart pound because he ain’t afraid of conflict. He loves physical fitness so much he organizes push-up challenges for the men of this town. He loves his family. He invites others to live in his home. This guy here is what we all need to be striving for unless you want to keep talking about gas prices and who done what wrong. Like the P.A. system up at the high school being so loud at 10:30 at night. And what about the leaf blower downtown at 6 in the mornings? And tell me what is it with McDonald’s being out of french fries?

• I can’t believe that renters get a break but not the owners. …

• To the (person) who called in and disputed the fact that you can buy guns at gun shows with no background check and only need the money, I have a friend that, last year, walked in to a gun show in Louisville, Ky., gave a seller the money, took an M1 rifle and walked out the door. Period. Deal done. And it was legal. Maybe some gun shows you do have to have a background check, but … all you need is the money. … We need more gun control …
