While the COVID-19 pandemic has brought much turmoil and grief for many when it comes to business operations, for JC Cheshire and his wife, Cecilia Collins, it gave them a dedicated time to decide what they really were passionate about. That ultimately led to the opening of their new business, Standard Issue Armory LLC (SIA).

The couple, both originally from Florida, were running a limousine service in Louisville for a little more than five years. Due to the pandemic, business had slowed down quite a bit and Cheshire, who is retired from the military, said they figured it was time to pivot. They still operate the limo service, which also can serve the Southern Indiana region, but they now split their time with SIA.

“We brought our limo business office back here because we were only utilizing a small amount of the property,” Collins said. “With all the time we had to stay at home, we realized we had so much unused space, and opening up SIA was the dream that came true for us.”

SIA sells and orders guns, gun parts and all the safety equipment needed to operate the artillery along with optics and knives. Its website,, showcases all of the offerings and parts the business owners are able to order for customers that they may not have in store at the time. Also, discounts are offered to veterans.

Cheshire said his goal was to operate a family-friendly gun store, where the community can feel comfortable coming in and simply talking about their gun experiences, whether they are a seasoned veteran or are handling a gun for the first time.

“It can be intimidating to go into a gun store if you don’t know a lot and feel like you can’t ask questions, but that’s not us,” Cheshire said. “People can come in, and we will explain everything and get to know them and really educate them in a fun way on operating the guns.”

He also noted they intend to have an entire building on the property dedicated to building ArmaLite rifles. He said those interested will be able to buy each of the parts required for assembling the rifle and he will walk them through building the AR part by part.

Collins said they are also currently preparing their safety course they hope to launch in the near future. On top of that, the duo also said they hope to have events on the property in the future, too.

Standard Issue Armory is located at 13260 Buffalo Trace Road near Palmyra and is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store’s phone number is 812-364-1466.
