Bonnie J. Melton Bonnie J. Melton

On Thursday, March 25, 2021, Bonnie Jean Jordan Melton entered the gates of Heaven, where she was joyously reunited with her beloved “Doc”, whom she married at the young age of 16.

Blessing us for 88 years with her humility, her goodness and her selflessness, she spent a lifetime loving and caring for others. Tirelessly working in her yard and garden, baking and cooking (especially her famous holiday and Sunday meals), quilting and meeting every need of her children and grandchildren were just a few of her favorite ways to spend each day.

Bonnie was born on Sept. 9, 1932, in Corydon, Ind., to the late Guy N. and Maymie Collins Jordan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodie (Doc) Melton Jr.; two brothers; two sisters; and two infant grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jimmy Melton (Phyllis), Sharon Melton Halbert Sharpe and Rhonda Melton Allen, all of Brandenburg, Ky.; grandchildren, Kristin Halbert Hibbard, Jaime Allen, Kyle Allen, Lauren Halbert Fox, Mark Haynes and Jeff Haynes; many beloved great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Shaffer and Carrolyn Schmidt, both of Corydon; a special sister-in-law, Shirley Faith of Laconia, Ind.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, from the First Baptist Church in Brandenburg, Pastor Ron Davis and Seth Miller officiating, with burial to follow in Cap Anderson Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 29, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home and Tuesday at the First Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to the time of the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Allen, Mark Haynes, Jeff Haynes, BJ Hibbard, Jonathan Fox and Gary Halbert.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 149 Lawrence St., Brandenburg, KY 40108, where she was a member for nearly 60 years.
