Tri Kappa celebrates 100 years of service
The Corydon Beta Chi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa (Tri Kappa) celebrated 100 years of service to the Harrison County community on Dec. 4, 2020.
Throughout its 100 years in Harrison County, members have been active in a variety of ways. Some may remember the chapter’s Holiday Home Tour at Christmas, annual style show in the spring, cake walk on the square during the Halloween parade, and the art and craft show during Old Settler Days.
For many years, the chapter also sponsored the Harrison County Fair Queen and Little Miss and Master contests, presented a covered wagon project to fourth-grade students and hosted a bus trip to the Kentucky Center for the Arts for students and their mothers to attend a play together.
More recently, members are known for their cheese ball fundraiser at Christmas, annual trivia night in the spring to benefit a local organization and serving a meal on the square during a summer bluegrass concert. They also provide two college scholarships to local seniors each year and hand out candy during Trick or Treat at the Fairgrounds.
This week, Tri Kappa members join their sisterhood throughout the state in celebrating 120 years of service during Tri Kappa Week.
The state organization was founded on Feb. 22, 1901, and has now grown to include nearly 8,000 members from 144 active chapters and 102 associate chapters.
Tri Kappa is a philanthropic organization based solely in Indiana whose mission is to support communities through charity, culture and education.
To showcase some of the Beta Chi Chapter history, members have set up a window display at Heart & Soul Florist in Corydon. The public is invited to stop by and view the display and enter a drawing for two $50 gift certificates.
Members also would love to hear from people in the community, from those who would like to share a memory from a past Tri Kappa event to those who would like to learn more about the chapter and organizations who would like to say how the chapter can help them. This can be done via the Facebook page Tri Kappa – Corydon Beta Chi Chapter or by sending an email to [email protected].
