To continue the Historical Society of Harrison County’s mission to preserve, protect, promote and interpret the rich history of Harrison County during COVID-19, the Society has established a new YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCspmxcQaknikf53kr__zT6A (if searching on your own, include “Indiana” to get the correct Historical Society).

Historical Society of Harrison County posts include tours featuring excerpted readings from the recent “Small Towns, Harrison County” book. Current tours include Journey Along Blue River, Harrison County Railroad Towns, Post Office Route between Corydon and Mauckport, North Harrison County, Ohio River from Bridgeport to Mauckport and Old Plank Road from Corydon to Lanesville, with more tours to come.

There are also two versions — one fast, one slower — of “I’ve Been Everywhere in Harrison County” featuring a rhymed rendition of the small towns featured in the “Small Towns, Harrison County” book.

Other musical postings on the Historical Society of Harrison County include a Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet Basement Concert and Jean Ann Parker at the Posey House.

Parker’s Piano Performances at the Posey House in downtown Corydon continue through June 2021, on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. “Small Towns, Harrison County” books are also available during the Sunday concerts for a $10 donation to the Historical Society of Harrison County.

Previously recorded versions of Historical Society of Harrison County events are also available on the YouTube channel.

“We just tried to do things differently this year and keep everybody connected and safe as well,” said Karen Schwartz, president of the Historical Society of Harrison County. “The grant funding from Indiana Arts Commission and the Harrison County Community Foundation was a real blessing.”

She said the “Small Towns, Harrison County” books have been a big hit and are going fast.

“I’m so glad we had the opportunity to help people learn about these places, many of which have been forgotten,” Schwartz said. “The Historical Society is appreciative of the opportunity to continue to provide history, music, art and other experiences using new methods and technology. We have persevered.”

Upcoming additions include a historic art painting party, loom lessons, additional tours, music and programs. Many of these projects were made possible through a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission matched by the Historical Society of Harrison County.

The Historical Society of Harrison County continues to host quarterly events virtually on the fourth Tuesday of every third month at 7 p.m.
