Panthers’ wrestling season ends
Corydon Central’s three wrestlers who competed Saturday at the Jasper semi-state site saw their season come to an end, while Crawford County’s lone grappler advanced to the state finals.
In the 106-pound weight class, Panther Zane Schreck lost to Blake Zirkelbach of North Posey 11-3. Zirkelbach ended up finishing second to Evansville Mater Dei’s Evan Seng.
Corydon Central’s Bryson Rowley, wrestling at 113, won his first match against Miles Libby of Bloomington South by fall to advance to the ticket round. He then lost, 13-4, to Reece Courtney of Center Grove.
The third Panther wrestler, Seth Johnson, in the 285-pound weight class, lost to Logan McGraw of Owen Valley by fall.
Crawford County junior Donnie Feeler earned a third-place finish in the 106-pound weight class. The top four of each weight class advanced to state.
Feeler, who has lost only two matches this season, began his morning against Evansville North’s Joseph Anderson and won by a pin 2 minutes and 38 seconds into the match. That moved him into the quarter-finals against Avon’s Luke Rioux. In that match, the Crawford County junior made even quicker work of Rioux with a pin 1:35 into the match to advance to the semi-finals.
Things didn’t go as well for Feeler in the semi-finals, where he went up against Evansville Mater Dei’s Evan Seng. The two went the distance, but Seng emerged the victor by a 3-1 decision to advance to the final.
In the consolation round, Feeler met Columbus East’s Liam Krueger, who Feeler had defeated in the finals of the Jeffersonville regional. Feeler came out the winner again in the rematch with a 4-1 decision. Seng went on to win the semi-state championship in the class, putting away North Posey’s Zirkelbach on a 3-2 decision.
The state finals will be Friday and Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Spectators will be limited depending on local health guidelines but will be televised on Fox News Indiana and on IHSAATV.org for those outside the Fox News Indiana viewing area.
