Lady Cats’ Burgher IBCA Player of Week honoree
Diana Burgher, a junior who plays basketball for North Harrison High School, was selected as the Week 12 IBCA/Franciscan Health Player of the Week for District 3.
Burgher is making her first appearance in the weekly awards, as she helped the Lady Cats to a couple of Mid-Southern Conference wins last month. On Jan. 19, the Lady Cats hosted Corydon Central, prevailing by a narrow 57-53 margin. Burgher posted her first double-double of the week with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win. She added two assists, four steals and two blocked shots in the victory.
On Jan. 23, North Harrison hosted Charlestown, and once again the Lady Cats escaped with a slim 65-60 triumph. The 6-0 forward was an impressive 13 of 18 from the field, a hot 6 of 8 from 3-point range and added three made free throws. Burgher actually entered the game with only seven made 3-pointers in her career. She again claimed a double-double with 12 rebounds, plus she added a pair of assists.
Tyler Fessel, a sophomore at Corydon Central, was a nominee on the boys’ side for the weekly award.
This is the 13th season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program but the first season it is presented by Franciscan Health, a corporate sponsor of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
North Judson – San Pierre senior Lilliann Frasure and Noblesville sophomore Ashlynn Shade were selected as the District 1 and District 2 honorees, respectively.
Player of the Week winners are chosen each week from each of the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s three districts. Girls’ winners will be chosen through the Monday following the Indiana High School Athletic Association girls’ state finals. Boys’ winners will be chosen through the Monday following the IHSAA boys’ state finals.
Week 12 ran from Jan. 18 to 23.
