New exhibition: Big, Bold & Beautiful New exhibition: Big, Bold & Beautiful

Harrison County Arts Inc. and the Artisan Center are hosting a new exhibition: Big, Bold and Beautiful, artworks by the artist-members of the Harrison County Arts Board of Directors.

The exhibition is a counter-balance to the previous holiday showcase, Tiny Art, and will feature large-scaled paintings, sculptures, quilts, printmaking and photography. Artists in the exhibition include Larry Beisler, Lorraine Hughes, Brian Jones, Joy Kirchgessner, Rita Koerber and Linda Shoults.

Beisler will exhibit a series of carved totems from 200-year-old poplar logs. Hughes will show a large photograph printed on stretched canvas. Jones will exhibit paintings and prints inspired by the mystery of fossils. Kirchgessner will show a new painting motivated by the anticipation of spring. Koerber will have a new large quilt creation on display, and Shoults will exhibit a large landscape painting that was an award recipient in the Hoosier Salon.

A policy of Harrison County Arts is to close the gallery whenever the COVID-19 positivity rate in the county exceeds 10%, to protect its volunteers, patrons and the general public. If the positivity rate falls below 10%, the exhibition will open to the public on Friday and will continue through March 27.

Hosting such an exhibition, a first of its kind for the Artisan Center, maintains a safer environment “in house” while also offering a rare and exhilarating look at the creative work of HCA board members.

COVID-19 hours for the Artisan Center, located at 121 E. Chestnut St., are Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
