An early morning fire Monday destroyed a home in the 1100 block of Main Street in Laconia.

Jeff Hess, chief of the Boone Township Volunteer Fire Dept., said they were notified at 7:38 a.m. of the fire.

Firefighters who arrived first said flames could be seen in the upstairs’ windows of the two-story structure, Hess said.

Three other fire departments — Heth, New Middletown and Elizabeth — were called to assist. Hess said that was due to the lack of manpower available during a weekday, as most volunteers are working their paid jobs.

Two adults and four children who were at the house when the fire started were unharmed, Hess said.

The Red Cross was called to provide assistance to the family, and Hess said several people in the community are working to help the family, too. Anyone interested in helping in any way can contact Hess.

The state fire marshal was at the scene of the fire Monday afternoon. Hess said it appears the fire was electrical in nature, likely from the use of space heaters.
