The Lanesville Lady Eagles have ascended to the top of the Class 1A rankings this week after posting nine straight wins by an average margin of nearly 40 points a game.

“It is exciting for these girls who have committed to change the culture of the program and for the community who have given them the support and means to change the culture,” said Lanesville coach Angie Hinton. “The girls have generated a lot of excitement for all of us and in the times we have been facing this year, it is well received.”

The Lady Eagles (9-1) got 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting from sophomore Linzie Wernert in a 65-43 win at Austin on Saturday.

Senior Elizabeth Turner added nine points, and junior Emma Campbell scored eight.

Lanesville jumped to a 33-11 first-half lead then battled Austin evenly through the second half.

The Lady Eagles also notched a 69-11 win at Henryville last Thursday night led by Wernert’s career-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Wernert also collected 13 rebounds and made seven steals.

Senior Gracie Adams added 18 points and nine rebounds to the winning effort.

The Lady Eagles made nine three-point shots, including 4 for 4 from Wernert.

Lanesville was scheduled to play at Paoli last night (Tuesday) and will host Borden tomorrow night.
