A barbecue contest held Sept. 27 as part of the abbreviated Harrison County Fair drew 40 teams from the region.

Charles Gordon, who organized the event, said there was a waiting list of persons wanting to compete.

The top 10 finishers were:

1 — Pooh Bear BBQ, of Elberfeld, which took home a total of $1,460 in cash along with the grand champion trophy.

2 — PoCo Porkers, Mount Vernon, $250 plus reserve grand trophy.

3 — Cottrell’s Naughty Hog BBQ, Greenville, $150.

4 — Dirt Rider BBQ, Elberfeld, $100.

5 — Simplistics BBQ, Frankfort, Ky., $50. This couple also won the appetizer challenge, which came with $100. Gordon said their dish will be featured on the menu at 1816 Modern Kitchen & Drinks in Corydon for eight months.

6 — Pork Swords BBQ, Henderson, Ky.

7 — Q-Pine BBQ, New Middletown.

8 — Big E’s Southern Q, Louisville.

9 — Smoking with Love, New Albany.

10 — BigginSmokey, Boonville.

Gordon expressed appreciation to Doug Henricksen, Thomas Owen, Donnie and Jeff Spalding and his family for their help with the event.
