Clarence Melton, 90, Elizabeth, Ind., died Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at his home in Elizabeth.

He was born Feb. 3, 1930, in Harrison County, to Denzil and Ailene Becker Melton.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retired self-employed over-the-road truck driver for Melton Trucking, owner and operator for Starlight Security, owner of Melton Backhoe, driver for Martin Transfer, Smith Transfer and Commercial Motor Freight, a 50-year member of New Middletown Volunteer Fire Dept., deputy for Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept., bus driver for South Harrison Community School Corp. and for Blue River Services, park manager for Harrison County Parks Dept. at the South Harrison Park location and a 60-year plus member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Melton.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ruby Love Melton; sons, Tony Melton (Sue) of Fairmount, Ind., Glen Melton (Karen) of Corydon, Ind., and Nick Melton (Kim) of Jeffersonville, Ind.; daughter, Sheila Melton of New Middletown, Ind.; sisters, Carol, Karen, Joyce, Denise, Penny and Marilyn; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.

Visitation will begin Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of the service.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery near Corydon.

Due to COVID-19, masks will be required in the building and no more than 60 people in the building at one time.
