The Corydon Central boys’ soccer team earned a win Sept. 2 on senior night over visiting Salem.

The 12 seniors — Sam Craig, Lucas Spalding, Jagger Holton, Luis Martinez, Juan (Freddy) Torres, Lucas Lee, Jose Chaires, Zane Pigg, Jacob Chaires, Ethan Lisher, Justin Drury and Marcos Chavez — all played their positions and more as they defeated Salem 10-1 in a conference matchup.

After getting up 5-0 at halftime, the players swapped offensive positions for defensive positions in an effort for the opportunity to play a position they may not have had the chance to play during their high school career.

By night’s end, all the seniors got a shot, with seven scored goals (Lisher 2, Lee, Holton, Martinez, Jose Chaires, Pigg and Chavez), most had defensive steals and three (Drury, Chaires and Lee) had saves. Goals were also scored by Hayden Ettner and Nolan Ables.

Last Wednesday, Corydon Central picked off defending sectional champion Madison, 2-1. The goals were scored by Lisher and Holton with assists by Lisher and Martinez. Drury was the winning keeper with two saves.

Corydon Central has two 6 p.m. home conference games coming up: Silver Creek tomorrow (Thursday) and North Harrison next Wednesday.
