Depauw man winner of essay contest
Michael D. Loudon of Depauw was selected one of nine winners of the Find Your Sacred essay contest hosted by the Center for Interfaith Relations in Louisville.
Loudon’s essay was titled Redbud Blossoms in a Time of Pandemic.
This first edition of the Sacred Essays contest sought to capture personal responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and onset of social distancing. The call was made for submissions to find connection, contemplation and instances of common action as the world changed.
Six countries were represented by the nearly 100 entries from persons of various ages and faith traditions.
Loudon’s essay includes details of his childhood, with mentions of trips to Jock’s, the county fair, milking cows, baling hay, finding black “gems” and why he puts out black sunflower seeds from October to May.
