Crawford County man arrested on multiple charges Crawford County man arrested on multiple charges

Following an incident last fall in which a Crawford County man claimed two of his dogs were shot and killed by Indiana conservation officers, that man has been arrested and faces multiple charges.

Jason F. Young of Leavenworth was arrested late last month and charged with obstruction of justice and intimidation, both Level 6 felonies, and false informing, a Class A misdemeanor.

The incident began in August when conservation officers went to Young’s residence on an unrelated matter. Young claimed that the dogs were killed; video from his home surveillance camera was posted to Facebook, which resulted in numerous posts, both positive and negative, toward the officers. In the video, the dogs are seen scurrying away from the officers and no drawn weapon is seen.

At least one of the officers said he received death threats following the incident.

The Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office, along with the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources’ Law Enforcement Division, requested that the Indiana State Police investigate Young’s allegations.

That investigation was concluded in February, and the findings were turned over to Prosecutor Cheryl Hillenburg. Charges were filed April 23.

An initial hearing for Young is scheduled for June 18.
