Lt. Col. Brian K. Guthrie assumed command of the 38th Intelligence Squadron at Beale Air Force Base, Calif., on March 14. The 38th Intelligence Squadron traces its lineage to the 38th Photo Lab, which was activated Sept. 2, 1945, as part of the 485th Bombardment Group, Very Heavy, at March Field, Calif., during the Pacific Campaign of World War II. The 38th Intelligence Squadron was activated Sept. 15, 2013, at DGS-2, Beale, AFB, Calif., where it achieved Initial Operational Capability on May 22, 2014, and Full Operational Capability on July 30, 2015. The 38th Intelligence Squadron is a Classic Associate Unit designed to provide a cadre of multi-disciplined, combat mission-ready Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance professionals to the Distributed Common Ground System. Squadron personnel conduct tactical, operational level Intelligence Operations providing near-real time intelligence fused from multiple platforms and intelligence disciplines for mission execution. Guthrie is the son of Walt and Aleta Guthrie of Milltown and a graduate of Crawford County Junior-Senior High School and Purdue University.
